Our story

Catherine Pelletier Lauzon graduated as an optician in 2016 to open the first ethical, ecological, and local eyewear store: Lunetterie Ora in the Villeray neighborhood of Montreal.

Brands actually made in Canada are very rare: in the country, there are fewer than 5 brands of locally made glasses. Catherine therefore founded Atelier Ora in 2022: a brand of glasses made in Montreal, in her own workshop in Mile-End.

Today distributed across Quebec and Canada, our frames combine artisanal know-how and respect for nature. Our mission? To allow all Quebecers and Canadians to have locally made glasses.

We also wish to approach humanity in its deep nature, by placing nature at the center of our creation.

Philosophy

At Ora, we choose to slow down. We believe in the beauty of our acts and the power of every small decision.

Nature is what we have that is most fundamental. Modern life has separated us from it: our mission is to bring us closer.

The lakes and rivers, the morning light, the silence; we want to honor all these gifts that are offered to us.

We make glasses in Quebec, Canada that honor our connection to nature, by adopting ecological and deeply human practices.

Wearing Ora is to take a curious look at the world. It is to remember every day our deep nature.

Atelier Ora - Montreal Quebec Canada

A rare craftsmanship in America

Our manufacturing workshop is the only one of its kind in Montreal, and is among a very small handful of eyewear factories on the continent. While this craft has long been recognized in France, it remains almost non-existent here. Crafting glasses in Quebec is an immense challenge and an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the creation of a more respectful world for living beings.

Ecology is not a marketing position

It is the foundation of who we are at Atelier Ora. We know that without a healthy nature, it is impossible for us to live well. All our business choices are made with living beings in mind: from the choice of raw materials to the end of life of our glasses.

Waste Management

Because the cutting of frames generates material waste, we collaborate with the Écolab of Cégep du Vieux-Montréal to recover them and give them a second life.

Slow Fashion

We refuse the overconsumption dictated by fleeting trends. We design timeless and durable frames, made to be loved, worn, and maintained over the years.

Responsible Materials

Our cellulose acetate is made from waste from the textile industry. The result is a durable, plant-based material that is strong and shiny for years.
